The settlement of Talsi is mentioned in written sources for the first time in 1231 during the Middle Ages. Talsi is situated on the Northcourland upland, hilly of Vanema. Talsi is the center of the region, with a total area of 2,750.8 square kilometers and a 95 km long Baltic Sea coastline.
