Sasmakas Valdemārpils Idol Lime-Tree

The former Sasmaka Manor House, built in 1886, is located at the end of Liepu-Street within a park. In front of the manor house, you can find a multi-stemmed tree known as the ‘Idol Linden’, which is one of the most famous and popular secular trees in Latvia. This remarkable lime tree captivates not only due to its impressive girth but also its majestic branching structure that stretches along the ground and rises into the sky. The circumference of its trunk has reached 8 metres. Since the 1970s, the ‘Idol Linden’ of Sasmaka has been considered one of the largest lime trees in Latvia and the Baltics. It is estimated to be between 350 and 400 years old.
