One of the most prominent Latvian landscapists of the 20th century, he dedicated his life to plein-air painting, often depicting his favourite Pērse Valley and streets in Pārdaugava. His landscape painting is based on thorough and serious observation of nature, combined with cultivated painterly refinement. Was a long-time professor of painting at the Art Academy of Latvia. The painting Talsi was created in two sessions while visiting a Talsi-based artist Ž. Sūniņš in 1953. According to an art historian R. Bēms, this painting is K. Ubāns’ most outstanding work.
