The Sun Stone of Roja

The “Sun Stone” is a stone resembling a round table, with a carved drawing on its upper part. It features a circle divided into four sectors by two perpendicular lines. The circle, divided by the lines, is called the “sun ring” with a “sun cross.” The lines forming the cross are precisely oriented towards the northwest, northeast, southeast, and southwest – the directions of sunrise and sunset during the summer and winter solstices. This orientation system has been used in Scandinavia since the Bronze Age (500-1500 BCE). Some researchers believe that the drawings on the Sun Stone are linked to the beginnings of local astronomy.

Accessibility: Difficult – the dirt road leading to it is partially overgrown, with a large pit surrounding the stone, and some trees have been left directly around it. To find the object, it is recommended to go with a local guide or expert (inquire at the Roja Tourist Information Center).

Near this Sun Stone, another similar Sun Stone with a table-like surface and an engraved ring was found a few years ago. GPS coordinates: 57.49262, 22.80212.
