The Roja church underwent several transformations in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1854, a stone tower was erected next to the wooden church, and in 1878, a stone church in austere and simple forms was built alongside the tower. To commemorate these historical events, a granite plaque with the inscription and the year – 1854, 1992 – was embedded in the wall near the main entrance (on the left side), indicating the significant renovations of the church.
During the First World War in 1916, the stone tower was bombed, and the 12.7-meter high stone turret was restored in its current form in 1992.
The altarpiece “Christ and Saint Peter on the Lake” (1890, M. Pols copy of the original by R. Rihters) is housed in the church. The organ, made in 1883, is the work of the organ builder Mārtiņš Krēslis from Jēkabpils.
Currently, the pastor serving in the church is Juris Veidenieks.
