The Mežīte Castle Mound is one of the most picturesque mounds in Kurzeme. It was densely inhabited from 11th to 13th century. The site contains a rich complex of archaeological monuments: Mežīte Castle Mound, a large ancient town, a cult place – Idol Hill, three ancient burial grounds – Kapurkalns, Kalsenieki and newly discovered Mežīte burial ground.
