Nature park „Engures ezers”lake Engure

Nature park “Engures ezers” (lake Engure) was established in 1998 and includes not only lake and the lands around it, but also the coast of the Gulf of Riga from Mērsrags to Engure, as well as the forests between the coast and the lake. In terms of habitats, the greatest value of lake Engure is the freshwater habitats of the lake and the large areas of calcareous marshes. Mērsrags is one of the few places in Latvia where there are seaside meadows characteristic of salty soils. You can get a small impression of the diversity of Engures lake by climbing the birdwatching tower, which is located at Ezera Street 49, Mērsrags, Mērsrags Parish. The seaside meadows can be seen from the observation tower, which is located near the open-air stage “Jēgerleja”, in Mērsrags, Mērsraga parish. On the other hand, going to the neighboring county Bērzciems, it will be possible to see the animal enclosures, the orchid trail, as well as the bird watching tower.
