The length of the Mērsrags canal is approximately 4 km. It was excavated in 1842 in order to increase the area of agricultural land around Lake Engure. The canal connects Lake Engure with the sea, but a port has been established at its outlet. Near the intersection of Krasta and Ezera streets, there is a rope bridge for pedestrians over the Mērsrags canal. The locals call it the Swinging Bridge. Today, Mērsrags canal is a favorite place among anglers – there is a certain licensed fishing in Mērsrags canal! Licenses are available at www.manacope.lv or at the Mērsrags Tourism Information Center.
