Basi Werewolf Stone – a cult site – is in the eastern part of Vandzene Parish, about 2 km south-west of the centre of Uguņciems, in the state forest approximately 1 km west of Klarnetas Farm. There is a tale concerning this stone, according to which it was the abode of a Werewolf, which emerged at midnight and midday and devoured people. In the winter of 1953/54, part of the stone was split off in order to create a statue of Imants Sudmalis (in Riga), and since then the old name has gone out of use, the stone being dubbed the ‘Sudmalis Stone’. The remaining part of the stone is 3 m long, 2 m wide, 4.6 m high and 11.4 m in girth.
